Curtain Call Academy Owner and Director
With over 40 years of training and experience in the theatre, Shelly continues to perform, train and take classes in the performing arts. Born and raised in Los Angeles, she majored in Theatre at Long Beach City College, and then majored in Musical Theatre at Saddleback College. She continued her professional theatre education at South Coast Repertory Conservatory.
She has worked as a community theatre director, stage manager, lighting designer, and actor. For five years she was the administrator, director and choreographer for the Academy of the Arts, a Christian musical theatre group for children in Orange County, California, producing two musicals per year. It was her privilege to serve as the Drama Ministry Director for Canyon Hills Church for four years. Her teaching experience also includes working as an instructional aide in special education for Riverside County in California, and serving as a Girl Scout leader for eight years.
Shelly, Steve, and Kayla moved to Parker, Colorado from Southern California in August 2006 and are members of Southeast Christian Church where Shelly serves on the Family Ministries Vocal Team and Steve serves as a sound technician in children's ministry. Kayla graduated from Southeast Christian School.
This is Curtain Call Academy's 12th year offering after-school, evening, and home-school drama programs in the South Metro Denver area.
"It is an honor and a privilege for me to share my greatest passions with your children---God and theatre! Thank you for allowing me to work with your precious children. Seeing them express, create, and grow while learning Christian principles is a thrill and a heartfelt joy for me!"
Classroom Assistant and Assistant Director
Susan has 18 years of experience working with children and has served in children's ministry at Southeast Christian Church in various classrooms, and as a VBS and MOPS coordinator. She also served as a room mom and volunteer at Southeast Christian School. She has worked for Curtain Call Academy for 10 years and after four years of training was promoted to Assistant Director for our annual sping musical productions. After studying drama in her teens, she is happy to be involved in theatre once again. Her talent, insight, and patience are invaluable to the Curtain Call program and the students love her!
Classroom Assistant & Sound
Steve has been involved in many aspects of theatre for 22 years. His experience includes acting, script writing, stage managing, set design/construction, and sound. He has worked with Curtain Call Academy for 10 years. Steve was a staff member of Canyon Hills Church in California and served as a men's and couple's group leader while also volunteering in the children's drama ministry. He currently serves at Southeast Christian Church as a sound tecnician for children's ministries. The Curtain Call Academy students enjoy Steve's calm and gentle nature and have a lot of fun working with him--he makes them laugh.
